The Campbell River Hospice Society has specially trained volunteers who understand the needs and concerns of the dying and the bereaved.
Individually, we:
- Give Assessment and referral to other suitable supports
- Provide access to information about death, dying and grieving
- Provide one-on-one support with a selected volunteer
- Have contact with the Community Hospice Palliative Care Team

We provide the following services:
Palliative Program:
The Campbell River Community Hospice Palliative Care Team work together both in the home and in the hospital to provide one-on-one support to palliative patients facing end of life issues, and to their families.
The team includes:
- Trained volunteers from Hospice
- Home care nursing
- Home support workers
- The palliative care physician
- Caregivers at the Campbell River and District Hospital
Bereavement Program:
One on one volunteer support for individuals grieving a loss of a loved one due to death.
Hospice Hospital Visiting Team:
Volunteers visit palliative patients in the hospital 5 days a week (weekends upon request.
Grief and Loss Counselling:
We have 2 Grief and Loss Counsellors available every week. On Wednesday, Michael Wilson is available and on Friday Connie Burns is available for appointments. Each counsellor will meet one on one, or in a family setting, with clients, primarily as a grief counsellor for bereaved adults, children and youths.

Relaxation Appointments:
Offered every Monday, at our office, one on one sessions for Healing Touch, Therapeutic Touch and Reiki. These session are great for clients, caregivers, volunteers, and healthcare workers who are dealing symptom management, stress or anxiety.

Drop In Relaxation & Support Group:
Offered throughout the year, this program has been developed to meet the needs of people living with cancer and their caregivers. It may also be helpful to others with chronic medical conditions or those who have recently experienced a loss.
- Every Tuesday from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm at the Hospice office
Widows & Widowers’ Grief Support Group:
This is a closed group and is for anyone who has lost a partner. It provides sharing and support for those dealing with the process of grieving.

Bereavement Support Group:
This is a closed group to help people realize there are good ways to grieve.

Grief After Suicide:
This is for anyone who has lost a loved one to suicide. Individual counselling or in a support group session.
- Third Monday of every month at 7:00 pm at the Hospice office.
Walking Support Group:
If you have experienced an illness, the loss of a loved one or are a caregiver, please join us for a walk in nature on Campbell River's beautiful waterfront.
- Every Monday at 10:15 am at the Frank James Park (Willow Point).
Life Review Program:
A trained Hospice Volunteer may assist a family member in sharing memories, thoughts and stories about a loved one in a way that is meaningful. They may perhaps create a memorable keepsake for family, friends and a legacy for future generations.
Library:
Our Library is open to anyone in the community who would like to browse our collection of books, audio, videotapes and articles on a wide range of subjects around death and dying, living, care giving, Hospice Care and bereavement.
Sally Wellman Memorial Garden:
The Sally Wellman Memorial Garden is located along the sea walk at the Rotary Park on the South Island Highway. Plaques may be purchased from the Hospice Society (for a minimum donation of $25.00) and once you have your plaque engraved the Hospice Office will assist you in mounting it on one of the bricks located on the garden walkway.

Hospice Services are Free
There is no charge for these programs. However, donations to the Hospice Society which supports these & other programs, are welcomed.
