I have a terminal illness
Receiving such news as being diagnosed with a terminal illness can be an overwhelming thing to grasp, accept and understand. It is a journey that no one is fully prepared for or aware of how your future will unfold. At the Campbell River Hospice we focus on the psyco-social and holistic wellness perspective rather than cure. We leave the hospice palliative care professionals to focus on taking care of physical symptoms, like pain and nausea. Palliative Hospice care is the team approach where we all consider a person’s social, emotional, and spiritual needs. This is how we work collaboratively with Island Health and Home and Community Care Services in our community.
We believe hospice palliative care aims to support a person’s choices for the best possible quality of life. This includes support for family and friends.
Hospice staff and volunteers are part of the care-giving team (family, friends, and health care professionals) who provide emotional support and information, and help ensure the individual’s needs and choices are met with sensitivity and digniity.
